Meeting - December 2006

At the CASS-SCIT meeting on December 8 2006 the following topics were discussed (this is a summary of the main points - the minutes give the full details):

Ensuring upward and downward feedback and discussion

Upward feedback from CASS-SCIT to UoA-ISC is via meetings between the CASS-SCIT Convenor and the Head of College prior to every UoA-ISC meeting. An email prompt for discussion will be circulated to all CASS-SCIT members prior to these meetings to stimulate discussion. SCIT is also a standing item at all CASS-CTL meetings.

Downward feedback and discussion is via CASS-SCIT members reporting key SCIT issues to their School Executive or equivalent fora. Additionally this blog provides a forum for all members of the wider University community to shape the discussion.

IT provision for PGR students

To improve the quality of IT provision for PGR students, the committee, after consideration of a number of different options, recommended that we support proposals for the provision of laptops to all PGR students. This recommendation has some tangency with other IT related developments within the University, namely extending WiFi provision, space management, and the technology renewal fund. The issue of IT provision for PGR students has also received high level consideration at UoA-ISC.

Other issues discussed at the meeting included strengthening our relationship with HEA subject centres (taken forward to CASS-CTL), Outlook migration, and video capture software for lectures.
